Day 147 – Mile 1166.7 + 206.8: This is the top of Clingman’s Dome – the highest point of the Appalachian Trail at 6612 ft!🇺🇸⛰
My cellphone battery died 2 days ago so I got a random tourist (there is a road up to Clingman’s Dome) to take this picture and text it to me!!
At Newfound Gap, I met a couple from Pittsburgh, PA, who offered to give me a ride into Gatlinburg, TN. You can definitely see the evidence of the devastating fires from last November here. Rest day tomorrow and then will hit the remainder of the Smokies!!😎
Day 148 – Mile 1166.7 + 206.8: It was so great to finally meet you @robtaylorphotography Robin and Rhonda!
Thank you SO much for giving the crew a ride to Super Suds for the obligatory zero day laundry run!!! That’s the crew – me, Oblio, Radiance and Medicine Man🌅😎
80 mph winds in Gatlinburg make for lots of downed trees, road closures to Newfound Gap and power outages in our motel today. Locals say the last time there were winds this bad were the day the fires hit last November…
Day 149 – Mile 1166.7 + 206.8: First double-zero of this adventure! No way to get back to the trail today – will have to check again tomorrow! Marci Kornegay we both get stuck in Gatlinburg 5 months apart!!
Day 150 – Mile 1166.7 + 206.8: … and we’re off!!
Day 150 – Mile 1166.7 + 209.8: Pulled into Icewater Springs Shelter and was first here. First time I’ve been the first footprints in the snow – glad I was followed by others! Staying out here until the sun comes out tomorrow😎
Thank you so much to trail angels Rob and Julie for taking Radiance, Medicine Man and myself to breakfast and then bringing us back to the trail!
I want to meet Radiance!!! She looks like an interesting person to me! Your photos and smiles keep getting better and better!
